Though heavy on the latakia its interesting how the orientals and burleys play in the background with every sip. It is not biting my tongue at all, and I am puffing the Dickens out of the bacci. I can taste it from time to time, not in a nutty burley taste but more of a vegetative way. It's not so much of that "campfire" Latakia taste as it is that mossy, damp, woody, nature-like taste. With the description of a 75% Latakia blend, I expected this tobacco to be nothing but the dark leaf and put off ordering it for a long time. I did find drying it out a bit gave the best results and minimized the relights. Heavy in each puff but always controlled by the Burley and Orientals, the Latakia seemed almost like a mild perfume that the other two were wearing. Upon the initial false light, I noticed an interesting flavor: a slightly sweet, dry, yet herbaceous taste. So, for me, this blend is rich, smokey, and spicy with the great flavors from the Turkish that mix very well with the Latakia. If you enjoy latakia forward blends that bring hints of incense, I do highly recommend this one. Pirate Kake is only for the true Latakia Lover, it has 70% Latakia in it , so unless your a big fan of Latakia, as I am, you may not want to buy over a sample to try. With glorious color changes, leaves falling, and watching one of my German Shorthairs lock up on point on a grouse or a plump woodcock trying to remain undetected. Had a light vinegar note on top. This is my favorite tobacco. I find this gets me closest to memories of my beloved Coyote Classic , . The smell in your tin is strongly smoky, as you would expect. Not quite balanced, but nearly so. I have one on hand aging, but will wait for another purchase to get another tin going. I took it up after having given up the pipe for a decade or so, took it up again, and wanted to recapture the intensity of the Balkan blend I used to smoke in my university days. I currently add 25% Pirate Kake to Lane's Rum and Maple. WOW, this is hearty. The charring light was interesting for the tobacco swelled grew like C&D's Crooner and the second light the tobacco took off nicely. Thats how good this stuff is. It is also an understatement. I truly enjoy reminiscing on the flavor and the smokey smell in my moustache well after my bowl has been finished. The latakia is smooth, even at 75%. After the initial char, it takes to a match easily and produces good volumes of velvety textured smoke. . Get some. Let me share with you that upon trying to stand after about a half an hour of smoking, I nearly fell over. The components come together quite nicely and gives a nice load of nicotine in this offering from C&D. Good smoke, I will keep it on hand as much as possible. Delicious flavors mend together and form a smooth, rich English blended by the tobacco gods themselves. While I love it now, I did not enjoy my first bowl. Pirate?s Kake does not measure up. Th is is hands-down the Best smoke I have ever had!! But it really is a good tasting tobacco. This tobacco has the same taste, until it all gone, unlike some tobacco's that after half the bowl is gone then you get an ashy burnt like taste.
